What if the US economy crashed? Or a global catastrophe occured? A meteor hit the earth and destroyed civilizations foundation!?!!That is my thought process behind my career chose. Some might think I'm going into Nursing to help people. And while on some level that may be the case. But really its just that I am paranoid. If something happens I'd rather have a technical career and one that is actually of value. Rather than a degree in Business or Law. Can a former business owner stitch up a wound? (maybe...but not on me)
Don't think I'm crazy or anything. I don't actually think a meteor is going to strike and destroy us at any moment, or that the world as we know it is about to come to an end. But I'd like a more reliable career path. This consideration is also based on the non-hypothetical. For instance, as a nurse I could work virtually anywhere, and thus live anywhere.
